The Corporate Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the general ledger and other accounting records of the Company. In support of this directive, this individual will lead the Portland-based General Accounting and AP teams. Additionally, this individual will provide technical instruction to and oversight of global accounting teams supporting the various reporting units around the world. This individual also assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of corporate accounting policies. The Corporate Accounting Manager is also tasked with maintaining a strong internal control environment by helping design, implement, and assess ongoing operating effectiveness of internal controls.
Key Responsibilities for Corporate Accounting Manager:
- Manage the maintenance of the general ledger for Portland-based operations
- Organize staff and determine objectives, assignments, and priorities
- Supervise staff in the performance of their duties, including review of analyses and work product
- Review journal entries for accuracy and completeness
- Prepare key analyses and memorandums as needed to support the Company’s accounting treatment for complex transactions
- Liaise with internal and external auditors as needed and provide Company prepared documentation as requested
- Work to continuously improve business processes
- Maintain the Company’s accounting policy documentation and communicate updates to the global Finance team
- Develop new policies and updates to existing policies; deploy and ensure global compliance
- Maintain the chart of accounts
- Ensure that important accounting information is provided to management in a clear manner and on a timely basis
- Key Member of Internal Control Oversight Team
- Review, resolve conflicts, and approve SAP user access requests through the GRC system to ensure proper segregation of duties
- Perform key internal accounting controls including select mitigating controls
- Supervise the Accounts Payable Manager and function to ensure that vendors are paid the correct amounts and at the appropriate time
- Work to continuously improve transaction processing and other aspects of these functions
Requirements/Qualifications for Corporate Accounting Manager:
- Minimum 6 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably with experience in a manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated leadership through the ability to coach and develop staff prepare them for greater responsibilities; previous supervisory experience preferred
- Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and accounting practices and processes
- Knowledge of internal accounting controls
- Understanding of the full accounting cycle
- Ability to work autonomously and think critically; analyze, interpret, and communicate financial results
- Solve problems analytically; when making decisions, search out relevant information and gauge its importance within the context of the broader business needs
- Take initiative, seek and act on opportunities to improve organization performance
- Ability to translate specific goals into action and follow through to achieve goals
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and data management software (SAP preferred)
- Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- CPA or equivalent professional credential is preferred
