OVERVIEW OF THE CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, responsible for the financial health and human resources strategy of the Portland Timbers and Providence Park operations. The CFO will lead both the Finance/Accounting and Human Resources departments, providing strategic guidance and operational oversight that supports the organization’s continued growth and long-term sustainability.
The Chief Financial Officer will bring deep financial expertise, operational acumen, and a collaborative leadership style that supports executive decision-making, promotes efficiency, and fosters a high-performance culture rooted in equity, inclusion, and organizational excellence.

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, responsible for the financial health and human resources strategy of the Portland Timbers and Providence Park operations. The CFO will lead both the Finance/Accounting and Human Resources departments, providing strategic guidance and operational oversight that supports the organization’s continued growth and long-term sustainability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER:
Executive Leadership
- Serve as a core member of the Executive Leadership Team.
- Shape organizational strategy through financial planning, forecasting, and goal setting.
- Supervise the Senior Director of Finance and Vice President of Human Resources, guiding both departments toward cohesive, strategic goals.
- Lead special projects and provide timely analytical support to the CEO and ownership group.
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process, working with department heads across soccer operations and business units.
- Produce monthly and quarterly financial reports, cash flow analyses, and long-range financial projections.
- Maintain compliance with complex debt structures and reporting requirements for banks, note holders, and ownership.
- Manage league-level audits and financial reporting (MLS, NWSL), game day reporting, and City of Portland agreements.
- Oversee tax compliance and coordination of all federal, state, and local filings.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures in accordance with GAAP.
- Direct external audits and ensure timely, accurate production of annual financial statements.
- Manage relationships with banks, lenders, and auditors.
- Oversee all HR functions, ensuring effective talent strategy, compliance, and employee engagement.
- Guide annual updates to the employee handbook and compliance with training and labor law requirements.
- Lead the organization's general liability insurance program and annual renewals.
- Champion the DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) program by supporting ongoing initiatives and training.
- Act as executive sponsor to the Employee Engagement Committee and other internal efforts.
- Ensure that compensation and benefits packages are competitive, equitable, and sustainable.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER:
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally with a combination of public accounting and private sector experience.
- Thorough knowledge of GAAP, budgeting, and financial modeling.
- Hands-on experience with month-end and year-end close, general ledger, and QuickBooks Enterprise.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, supervise senior-level staff, and serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership.
- Demonstrated experience in managing complex cash flows and debt structures.
