Senior Project Business Analyst

Our client, providing safe and reliable utility services and renewable energy to better the lives of the communities they serve, are searching for a Senior Project Business Analyst for their office in Portland, OR. The Senior Project Business Analyst (BA) will be involved in requirements gathering, business process modeling, and functional design projects and initiatives with business and technology components. The BA will work closely with Project Managers (PM) to ensure completeness of vision based on business requirements. The BA will be responsible for documenting business processes and leading business process re-design sessions when necessary.  The BA may be responsible for other activities including research, reporting, participating in design and testing of deliverables.

This is a hybrid (2 days in office) role and is a Direct Hire position. Non-local candidates must be willing to relocate to the Portland, OR area to be considered for the role.

Responsibilities of Senior Project Business Analyst:

  • Supports the project process throughout the software development lifecycle and is responsible for authoring key documentation and deliverables at each phase.
  • Elicits requirements through interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, storyboards, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, event lists, business analysis, competitive product analysis, task and workflow analysis, and/or viewpoints.
  • Leads re-engineering of business processes and identifies various solutions to business problems. 
  • Works closely with the PM to develop Business Requirements and Functional Specifications documentation.
  • Leads requirements analysis and verification ensuring that requirement statements are complete, consistent, concise, comprehensible, traceable, feasible, and verifiable. 
  • Responsible for tracking, prioritizing and reporting status of multiple initiatives.
  • Writes requirement specifications according to standard templates, using natural language simply, clearly, unambiguously, and concisely.
  • Responsible for managing project tools (Azure DevOps) including creating, prioritizing, and maintaining user stories, acceptance criteria, and requirements throughout the project.
  • Represents requirements using alternative views, such as analysis models (diagrams), prototypes, or scenarios, where appropriate. 
  • Establishes and maintains productive business partnerships across the organization.
  • Manages expectations through direct and routine interaction with business partners.
  • May participate in other duties such as documenting test scripts, test plans and system testing.
  • Other duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective system operations.
  • Supports Company’s commitment to a culture of safe work practices.


Qualifications of Senior Project Business Analyst:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Business-related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • 8 or more years of related experience with progressively more complex analysis projects including business process documentation and re-engineering. 
  • 5 or more years of working on software systems projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and to lead others in a directed effort to complete projects.
  • Advanced presentation skills, with proven ability to present at the Executive, Director and Manager levels.
  • Strong verbal communication skills including the proven ability to communicate effectively on an individual and group presentation basis, including negotiation and facilitation skills and techniques.
  • Skill in assessing stakeholders and asking probing questions to understand underlying needs and surface essential requirements information. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with employees and management at all levels of the organization including skill in working across organizational and geographical boundaries.
  • Proven analytical skills to critically evaluate the information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, deconstruct high-level information into details, abstract up from detailed information to a more general understanding, discern underlying true needs from presented user requests, and distinguish solution ideas from requirements.
  • Proven ability to work with changing requirements/priorities using internal and external resources.
  • Demonstrated skill and ability to produce effective written communication, including report preparation, and documentation for a variety of audiences. 
  • Advanced skill in documentation methods and software including but not limited to Word, Visio, Excel, and Project. 
  • Proven ability to learn new systems and applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-managed and apply skills in problem solving and decision-making.  
  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects to meet tight schedules and demanding targets while delivering high quality products.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage competing priorities and reconcile divergent expectations. 
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to follow through on tasks.
