Our client, a leading energy provider and committed community partner, is seeking a Capital Accounting Manager to oversee all aspects of capital accounting, ensuring the accurate recording, reporting, and compliance of capital expenditures and fixed assets. This pivotal role supports audits, drives financial reporting related to capital projects, and ensures adherence to Regulatory Accounting ASC 980.

Responsibilities of the Capital Accounting Manager
- Lead and support a team of three Capital and Project Accounting professionals.
- Review, approve, and post journal entries and reconciliations (including CWIP, plant in service, depreciation, construction overhead, AFUDC, and lease accounting).
- Oversee fixed asset accounting, including asset capitalization, retirements, and depreciation.
- Ensure general ledger accuracy and timely reconciliations of capital-related accounts.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations using Blackline and maintain compliance with SOX controls.
- Collaborate with internal project managers and finance teams to track capital project spend and reporting.
- Represent the accounting function in management meetings and company initiatives.
Requirements of the Capital Accounting Manager
- 8+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in Fixed Asset Accounting and prior supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, delegate effectively, and manage competing priorities.
- Strong working knowledge of regulatory accounting principles (ASC 980 preferred).
- Passion for team development and continuous improvement.
- Utilities or regulated industry experience preferred but not required.
- SAP and PowerPlan experience strongly preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills required.
- Experience with Blackline and SOX compliance is preferred.
