Engineering Technician 2 (Hybrid)

Our client, a leading Pacific Northwest utility provider committed to public service and environmental preservation, is looking for an Engineering Technician 2 for their Portland, OR location. This full-time contract Engineering Technician 2 position will provide support to the Energy Efficiency Engineering Services Group within the Power Services business line. This position will primarily interact with engineers in the Engineering Services group and public utility specialists in the Programs group. The Technician may also work directly with other staff in and outside of Energy Efficiency and with external customers. This position will support and assist the organizations in achieving energy efficiency targets.

Key Responsibilities for Engineering Technician 2:
  • Provide energy efficiency project technical support while serving on conservation service teams.
  • Perform outreach and customer service duties associated with identifying, auditing, documenting, and implementing energy efficiency projects, performing measurement and verification, and providing technical guidance and assistance.
  • Visit utilities and end-users to identify, audit, and document energy efficiency projects. Work with the utility and/or end user to help identify and document solutions where energy efficiency can benefit both the end user and utility.
  • Support staff to promote the energy efficiency program and provide proactive customer service. The potential audience includes utilities, federal agencies, trade allies (contractors, equipment vendors, distributors), and industry associations. This could be achieved via phone, web or in person.
  • Serve as part of a team advancing energy efficiency offerings for commercial, residential, and/or agricultural applications.
  • Conduct on-site audits at commercial buildings, personal residences and farms to document current equipment, facilities, or mechanical/electrical systems to support the identification, development, analysis, and the measurement and verification of energy efficiency measures and projects. 
  • Research equipment and systems technical specifications to support audits and analysis of energy efficiency projects.
  • On-site audits may include, but are not limited to, farms, schools, businesses, and personal residences. Buildings/residences may be entered, or crawl spaces may be accessed to fully conduct the audit.
  • Utilize energy efficiency calculators and reporting tools to document and report audit findings and determine energy savings.
  • Develop audit and reporting tools to support on-site audits and project analysis. Different equipment, facilities, and mechanical/electrical systems use different auditing and reporting tools to ensure all appropriate information is documented.
  • Identify, develop, and manage energy efficiency projects with oversight of project manager or designated staff member.
  • Verify customer satisfaction with project progress/completion.
  • Verify documentation and specifications are accurate.
  • Ensure all required information and documentation is collected.
  • May facilitate the following:
    • Project scoping.
    • Project Development.
    • Project verification.
  • Mark documents and maintain filing system(s), files, emails, and records in accordance with compliance requirements.

Requirements/Qualification for Engineering Technician 2:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology is optional.
  • 4 years of demonstrated experience in energy efficiency OR 4 years conducting audits or evaluations of equipment, facilities, or mechanical/electrical systems OR 8 years as a facility manager or facility maintenance technician.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License is required.
  • A combined experience of 4 years or more in the following areas:
  • Experience auditing and documenting equipment, facilities, or mechanical/electrical systems such as lighting, HVAC, building structure or envelope, or other mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Experience using auditing tools and software to document equipment specifications, quantity, and/or operations.
  • Project management, facility management, and/or maintenance experience.
