ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CONTROLLER
- Collaborate with the Executive Director, Deputy Director, and Board Finance Committee to develop and monitor short-to-medium-term financial plans, aligning with organizational growth targets.
- Develop and maintain internal financial-management policies, procedures, and performance measures for effective financial control.
- Foster a strong working relationship with the Board, presenting and gaining approval for strategic organizational initiatives as a valued member of the leadership team.
- Ensure compliance with financial, accounting, and regulatory standards. Establish and maintain a robust system of internal controls.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements and analysis. Conduct reconciliations of bank, credit card, and investment accounts.
- Oversee the annual single audit and act as the primary point of contact for the external CPA firm.
- Supervise staff and oversee the Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Payroll functions to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
- Manage organizational budgeting and reporting, prepare annual budgets and routine expenditure reports.
- Develop and submit annual Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate Agreement (NICRA) proposals and reports.
- Oversee the functioning and relationship with the accounting software provider (QuickBooks)
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE CONTROLLER
- Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field.
- Eight or more years of relevant work experience in finance, preferably at a director or Controller level.
- Proficiency in financial management and accounting software systems.
- Understanding of GAAP-basis accounting.
- Expertise in accounting software QuickBooks or similar tools
- Experience with organizations receiving federal funds.
- Advanced understanding and use of Excel (VBA, Power Query, Custom Forms)
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE CONTROLLER
- Master’s degree and public accounting experience.
- CPA License
- Strong leadership, strategic, and communication skills.
- Analytical skills and expertise in financial and accounting policies.
