Inventory Accountant
Our client, a large privately held dealership in Portland, OR is seeking an Inventory Accountant. The Inventory Accountant is responsible for a wide range of accounting and reporting support as it relates to inventory transactions including balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close related duties, and other reporting as necessary. Success in this role involves effectively participating in and leading various tactical and strategic accounting projects and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities for Inventory Accountant:
- Complete a wide range of month-end close related responsibilities for the inventory accounting team, ensuring timely and accurate month-end reporting
- Support the cycle of continuous improvement in process and controls
- Develop a thorough comprehension of product cost flows for parts and truck/trailer inventory. Identify problems, establish facts, and present solutions
- Assist in the processing of truck/trailer sales transactions as needed, with an emphasis on detail and accuracy
- Research and answer inventory related inquiries including effectively communicating with sales and finance managers across the company
- Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and effectively communicate with management across the company
- Provide excellent customer service to cross functional members of our Client’s team
- Maintain adequate knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting aspects tied to specific inventory related balance sheet accounts
- Perform analytical procedures to identify trends, errors, and opportunities for improvement in the usage of inventory. Summarize findings and present to management
- Assist in the physical inventory process, reconcile physical inventory versus the general ledger, investigate material variances, and propose adjustments as needed
- Act as the subject matter expert in the assigned area of responsibility
Requirements/Qualifications for Inventory Accountant:
- Bachelor’s Degree with and emphasis in Accounting
- 2-4 years of related experience performing various accounting related duties
- Knowledge of GAAP accounting principles
- A good understanding on the interrelationship of the income statement with the balance sheet
- Experience reconciling balance sheet accounts including writing correcting journal entries
- Experience within medium to large sized companies that operate in a best practice environment
- Intermediate skill with Microsoft Excel, including VLookups, Pivot Tables, and Power Queries
- Experience with creating and editing Excel macros
- CDK experience preferred
- Strong functional knowledge of industry specific ERP applications and functionality
- Strong management and organizational skills
- Attention to detail while at the same time being able to understand big picture/overall strategy & business impacts
