Job Location: Hybrid/remote and in-office at Providence Park Human Resources department
Compensation: $95,000-$100,000

OVERVIEW OF THE VICE PRESIDENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES ROLE:
The Vice President of Human Resources (“VP”) leads the organization's human resources compliance and initiatives by providing organizational leadership and direction, oversight, and management of the organization’s Human Resources programs, services, policies, and initiatives. As a direct reporting to the organization’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the VP will manage the department’s annual budget, champion inclusive and culturally competent practices, and ensure adequate policies incongruent with the organization’s HRAR.

Salary range for Vice President: $95,000-$100,000

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE VICE PRESIDENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES:
Administrative Procedure & Facilitation
  • Recommends improvement of human resources policies, procedures, and practices, effectively addressing business needs with innovative solutions to senior leaders
  • Conducts a compensation analysis and propose recommendations for any changes to compensation, commission, and bonus structures (e.g., deferred compensation and retirement plans)
  • Oversees all coaching frameworks and leads employee performance evaluations
  • Organizes all training and employee development annually
  • Assists all leaders and employees with job result accomplishments, and manages all aspects of employee relations (e.g., recruitment, retention, new hire orientation, employee discipline, and termination)
  • Promotes organizational mission and values of Peregrine Sports/Portland Timbers
  • Provides leadership that values diversity and prioritizes inclusive and culturally competent practices

Organizational Management
  • Directs and evaluates the department’s programs and activities to ensure alignment with the mission and goals of the Peregrine Sports/Portland Timbers
  • Ensures the preparation and distribution of all written and verbal information to inform employees of benefit programs
  • Effectively manages the department’s annual budget with the approval of the CFO
  • Develops and manages wage structures, benefits, and other compensation programs, ensuring internal and external equity. Recommends compensation adjustments, according to findings, utilizing knowledge of prevailing rates and types of wage incentive systems
  • Develops long and short-range plans for the department in support of the organization’s overall mission, functions, and strategic plan
  • Partners with General Counsel’s office regarding employment legal compliance (e.g., local and federal policies, league employment and training requirements, and lead internal investigations for employment law matters)
  • Maintains proper documentation of all compliance items as well as personnel files
  • Serve as an advocate, mentor, and resource for concerns and issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Partner with the Vice President of Community & Social Impact to deliver DEI initiatives and messaging to internal and external stakeholders

  • Offers personal interest and commitment to working in a diverse and inclusive work environment with a high value on equity
  • Participates in promoting a positive workplace culture of collaboration, innovation, and respect
  • Engages in equity training and serves in related workgroups as needed

PREFERRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of management principles and practices, including program planning, analysis, administration, evaluation, and budgeting
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite in a Microsoft Windows environment with particular emphasis on Word, Excel, and Outlook – Experience with ADP Workforce
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills using in-person and virtual formats
  • Ability to exercise a professional demeanor and an elevated level of customer service for a potentially demanding customer base in a variety of situations and with various interest groups or individuals with conflicting and competing needs, desires, and demands
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups in our community
  • Must maintain current knowledge of all developments and best practices specific to diversity, equity, and inclusion education
  • Prior experience in identifying and implementing best practices of diversity and inclusion
  • An excellent command of current diversity and inclusion concepts and issues
  • Management experience with a critical understanding of context, culture, and policy within institutions that impact the implementation of effective diversity change efforts
  • An ability to establish effective working relationships in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment – Refer to the STAND TOGETHER Initiative
  • Excellent written, verbal, critical thinking, and presentation skills

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE FOR THE VICE PRESIDENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Oregon and federal employment, and safety laws
  • 5 years of experience in a 75-200 employee organization with increasingly responsible practical experience in human resources management, administration, and planning as demonstrated by a strong history of policy development, recruitment, compensation and benefits administration and planning, retirement plan administration, safety, discipline and termination, and retention of talent
  • SPHR certification preferred
  • 3 years of training in diversity, equity, and inclusion, and 3 years of experience developing human resources policies and procedures that reflect and support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
