OVERVIEW OF THE CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER ROLE:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a value creator, helping build a dynamic organization. In addition to the core CFO responsibilities of directing and overseeing the financial activities of the corporation, directing the preparation of current financial reports and summaries, and creating forecasts predicting future growth, the CFO will also provide leadership that can help drive Bloodworks’ ability to unlock substantial growth across the organization, to make material investments in the capacity and capabilities that support growth, and to continue the patient work of constructing exceptional people programs and the healthy norms that define our chosen culture.
Bloodworks operates multiple business lines in blood collections and distribution, laboratory services, biopharma manufacturing, and funded research. Comprising roughly 800 employees and $150 million in revenue, Bloodworks largely operates in WA and OR and in some cases, serves customers nationally and globally.
Salary Range for the Chief Financial Officer: $345,807 - $545,336 annually

- Develop and put in place strategies that deal with financial challenges, and for handling sudden or unstable growth
- Guide peers through the long- and short-term trades-offs associated with capability building and help them define the means and metrics to monitor progress toward stated performance goals.
- Use data and cross-functional relationships to help peers’ leaders track the need (and build the business case) for skills and capabilities in specific areas of the business and differentiate Bloodwork’s from our competitors.
- Compares sales and profit projections to actual figures and budgeted expenses to actual expenses
- Makes or oversees any necessary adjustments to future projections and budgets.
- Directs the preparation of all financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, shareholder reports, tax returns, and governmental agency reports.
- Collaborate with business line leaders to help them to see the financial perspective of their plans and projects.
- Study long-range economic trends and project their impact on future growth in sales and market share.
- Review planning process and suggest & implement improvements to current methods.
- Analyze operations to identify areas in need of reorganization, downsizing, or elimination.
- Work with the Executive Team to coordinate planning and establish priorities for the planning process.
- Identify opportunities for expansion into new product areas.
- Oversee investment of funds; work with financial institutions to source additional capital required for expansion.
- Ensure that leaders throughout the organization use a common language to discuss finance, to reduce confusion and increase efficiency in both operations and communications
- Build core functional capabilities for monitoring cash flows, establishing base and momentum cases, and using a range of scenarios in decision making—all critical to understanding how an organization can unlock more value.
- Empower business-unit leaders and other employees to take ownership of cash-related decisions without sacrificing product quality or customer satisfaction.
- Ensure Finance & Administrative Services is structured to meet current needs and to aid in shaping financial strategy for the business overall.
- Pursue understanding of skills and mindsets required in various parts of the organization to understand the necessary associate’s talent investments
General
- Provide direct leadership to and oversight of assigned support departments.
- Serve as a member of the Administrator On-Call (AOC) team, providing coordination of urgent and emergency activities on an assigned rotating basis.
- Comply with all applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as written.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE OF THE CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER:
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance strongly preferred
- 8 to 10 years of experience in financial management required
- Financial leadership in commercial non-profit or for-profit organization required
- Financial planning & analysis leadership experience
- Leadership experience in a non-profit environment desirable
- Experience in successful negotiation of contracts
- Evidence of business building through new revenue generation; highly market focused
- Experience managing patient billing or healthcare claims submissions is not required, as Bloodworks does not perform these activities

- To obtain access to some client facilities, incumbents may be required to apply for and obtain clearance to access the client property. This clearance process may require incumbent to undergo additional levels of screening beyond Bloodworks’ standard pre-employment screening.
