Tax & Vendor Compliance Specialist
Our client, a leading healthcare company dedicated to revolutionizing the industry, is seeking a Tax & Vendor Compliance Specialist to play a key role in overseeing tax reporting, vendor database management, and financial compliance. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with experience in 1099/1042 reporting, sales and use tax filings, and project management.
Type: Contract – 6+ months (Possibility in converting to FTE!)
Pay Range: $25.50 – $27.50 hourly, DOE
Location: Mostly Remote! (Only required to be onsite 2-3 times per month) – Portland, Oregon
Responsibilities of the Tax & Vendor Compliance Specialist:
- Lead the annual 1099/1042 tax reporting process, ensuring accurate preparation, filing, and reconciliation of tax documents. Manage provider inquiries, handle B-Notice requirements, and collaborate with internal teams to correct business names, addresses, and tax identification numbers (TINs).
- Oversee state sales and use tax compliance, including preparing corporate tax provisions, estimated tax payments, journal entries, and quarterly account reconciliations. Investigate discrepancies and coordinate with relevant departments.
- Maintain the vendor master database, ensuring compliance, legitimacy, and accuracy of all vendor records. Approve new vendor setups and oversee ongoing updates.
- Develop and maintain departmental metrics, using Excel to analyze, track, and report financial data. Provide ad-hoc analysis related to tax reporting and vendor management.
- Lead cross-functional projects by building work plans, allocating resources, assessing risks, and ensuring timely execution. Support system testing and process improvements within tax and vendor functions.
Qualifications of the Tax & Vendor Compliance Specialist:
- 2+ years of experience in Accounts Payable or a related financial role.
- Associate’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Strong knowledge of 1099/1042 tax reporting and compliance requirements.
- Experience with sales and use tax filings, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and tax return preparation.
- Proficiency in Excel, with expertise in data mining, financial reporting, and metrics analysis.
- Ability to lead cross-functional projects and manage multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to liaise between departments and external partners.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess financial data and implement solutions.
- Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Experience with vendor database management, including compliance and record accuracy.
- Adaptability to work flexible hours during peak tax reporting periods.
