Relay Resources is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to manage accounting transactions and financial reporting for the organization and its subsidiaries during the implementation of a new ERP system. This role will work closely with the CFO, Controller, and Director of Finance, as well as senior leadership, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial statements. This role will review journal entries, revenue recognition, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting, adapting current accounting systems to meet changing business needs.
Job Location: Portland, OR. (HYBRID, 3-days onsite/2-days remote)

Hourly Rate: $70.00 – $75.00

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review and approve journal entries, non-recurring transactions, and monitor overall transaction compliance with processes and procedures for completeness and accuracy.
- Review billings (including work order and one-time billings) for compliance with ASC 606 revenue recognition standards.
- Manage financial operations across multiple entities and divisions, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance, and effective management of intercompany transactions for diverse product lines and business units.
- Ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with program budgets and authorization policies.
- Review employee expense reimbursements for compliance with policies and procedures and approve payment through expense management system (Certify).
- Perform monthly inventory reconciliations and prepare corresponding Cost of Goods Sold journal entries, following up with Operations Managers as needed for clarification on inventory activity.
- Record and code janitorial supply purchases in the janitorial supplies database and prepare both the monthly Supply Bill Back report and A/P transaction import files.
- Review and approve monthly balance sheet reconciliations across Relay’s entities.
- Coordinate with Assistant Controllers to issue timely and complete financial statements, including performing final reviews before distribution to leadership on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Prepare and analyze financial data, including monthly and year-to-date Statement of Cash Flows, key metrics, budget variance reports, and ensure accuracy for inclusion in the monthly leadership team packet and other financial reports.
- Ensure compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
- Update accounting systems and Excel-based reporting templates to reflect changes in business structure, including new entities or departments.
- Maintain an adequate system of accounting records and comprehensive controls to mitigate risk.
- Prepare ACH transactions in the bank for approval by a check signer and provide backup and support to Assistant Controller on positive pay functions.
- Coordinate completion of audit PBC requests with the accounting team and review PBC requests to assist in ensuring a clean, unmodified audit opinion.
- Prepare annual 990s for entities.
- Monitor changes in Relay’s financial activity and keep senior leadership abreast of the financial status of Relay Resources and its subsidiaries.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- CPA preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in an accounting supervisory or management role, with demonstrated increased responsibility.
- Extensive experience managing financial operations across multiple entities and divisions, with a proven ability to ensure accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective management of intercompany transactions across diverse product lines and business units.
- Public accounting experience preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and technical accounting principles, laws, and regulations; ability to quickly learn and adapt to new regulations.
- Demonstrated success in advanced financial accounting and reporting.
- Highly detail-oriented, analytical, and accurate, with proven ability to synthesize and communicate technical accounting, reporting, and compliance requirements.
- Experience with MIP Fund Accounting or a similar accounting system.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
- Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented.
- Able to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment.
- Capable of establishing strong working relationships with team members, including the ability to leverage team strengths and support areas for development.
- Ability to independently prioritize while managing multiple competing priorities.
- Ability to work in both a paper and paperless environment.
- Ability to pass drug screenings, criminal history background checks, credit checks, and/or fingerprinting as appropriate at any time during employment.
