Technical Training Specialist – Electrical Power Systems
Our client, a leading Pacific Northwest utility provider committed to public service and environmental preservation, is looking for a Technical Training Specialist for their Vancouver, Washington location. In this role you will provide technical training for apprentices and journeymen in electrical power crafts. With oversight from the supervisor of technical training, the role involves developing and delivering courses on topics such as electrical grounding for high-voltage power systems, rigging, and safety rules and procedures. The Specialist will also provide technical expertise for grounding committees, incident assessments, and configuration requests from electrical crews.

Key Responsibilities for Technical Training Specialist:
- Use full-cycle Instructional System Development (ISD) to create and deliver approved training.
- Develop formal training materials, including courseware, job aids, and exercises.
- Deliver courses on grounding, rigging, safety, and other technical topics.
- Update and teach customized courses for electrical crews and substation workers.
- Deliver Department of Energy instructor development courses.
- Create presentations, quick reference materials, and user guides.
- Develop new storyboards, templates, and curriculum materials.
- Ensure training products meet organizational standards and requirements.
- Identify and quantify training needs in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Consult with SMEs to gather technical information and provide training.
- Recommend training methods, tools, timelines, and objectives.
- Coordinate logistics for training sessions, including scheduling and materials.
- Develop and validate learner evaluations and assessments.
- Update and revise training materials to maintain accuracy and relevance.
- Facilitate meetings with SMEs, stakeholders, and management.
- Provide technical expertise for grounding and bonding inquiries.
- Support safety incident assessments with technical input.
- Evaluate apprentice progress and provide focused one-on-one training.
- Report on student performance to the program lead.
- Collaborate with team members to refine training approaches and materials.
- Coordinate with media services, print shops, and other parties for training needs.
- Validate learning objectives and ensure alignment with training content.
- Deliver safety training, including Accident Prevention Manual and Safe Workplace rules.
- Provide feedback and recommendations for continuous training program improvement.
Requirements/Qualification for Technical Training Specialist:
- Bachelor’s degree in adult education or training, instructional design & technology or Engineering is preferred.
- 10 years of directly related technical experience is required
- 2 years of experience in training, learning and development.
- 2 years of presentation experience and/or mentoring to include making effective presentations reflecting diverse audience’s understanding of the topics at hand.
- 5 years of experience with grounding, rigging, and following electrical safety rules and procedures.
