Responsibilities of Development Manager:
- Develop and implement an annual fund development plan and measure and report progress towards achieving goals.
- Lead individual donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship by attending key meetings, events, and programs.
- Serve as the lead point of contact for all major investors.
- Oversee coordination of database and tracking systems managed by the Development Coordinator.
- Oversee coordination of grants managed by the Development Coordinator.
- Direct and manage all annual fundraising events and campaigns, including Spread the Love gala, End of Year event, Back to School Mississippi Avenue Event, Fun Run, Giving Tuesday, and End of Year Campaign.
- Staff all Investment Council and Event Committee meetings.
- Support Family Council fundraising efforts, including for the annual fifth-grade DC trip, ensuring compliance with organizational fundraising guidelines.
- Manage the Major Gifts program, including recognition components.
- Work with the CEO to engage the Board of Directors and Investment Council to increase major gifts, with a focus on cultivating existing investors and securing multi-year gifts.
- Strategize and implement donor cultivation techniques to inspire prospective and lapsed investors and support ongoing investors to increase contributions.
- Introduce and manage a planned giving program, focusing on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies.
- Produce and analyze weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on partners, investors, and funders as needed.
- Grow and maintain relationships with businesses to develop healthy partnerships, solicit contributions for event sponsorships, and engage businesses in key events and volunteer opportunities.
- Build and implement the annual fund development plan in partnership with other team members.
- Produce and direct annual appeals and other fundraising campaigns in partnership with the Development Coordinator.
- Oversee the design and distribution of impact reports, collateral, and other publications.
- Make public appearances and accept speaking engagements to share the organization's mission and impact with the community.
- Supervise the Development Coordinator and other direct reports.
- Participate in administrative staff meetings and other organizational meetings and seminars.
- Attend and support staff and family events.
- Engage in professional development and continuous improvement practices, including observations, reflections, and collaborations.
Requirements of Development Manager:
- BA required.
- Minimum four years of work experience in development or related field and proven proficiency in fundraising.
- Two years of Managerial Experience Required.
- Prior non-profit/education reform experience preferred.
- Experience with Fund Development CRMs preferred.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Have knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising.
- Have the desire to get out of the office and build external relationships.
- Highly detail-focused and results-oriented.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with multiple constituencies including business leaders, politicians, high net-worth individuals, thought leaders, families, and consultants.
- Team-player attitude and strong customer-service orientation.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and implementation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
