Sr. Electrical Engineer - Facilities (Hybrid)
Our client, a leading Pacific Northwest utility provider committed to public service and environmental preservation, is looking for an Electrical Engineer 3 - Facilities for their Vancouver, WA location. This position will support the Facilities Engineering (TENF) Group in the Transmission Services (T) business line. This engineer will conduct system analysis, design, reviews, and check electrical designs done by internal engineers or external Architecture & Engineering (AEs) design firms for electrical systems at substations and telecommunications sites. The position will coordinate and facilitate all building electrical; lighting, circuits, panels, wiring, HVAC, fire alarm systems, security systems, communication systems, emergency power systems, engine generators and electrical gates.

Key Responsibilities for Sr. Electrical Engineer - Facilities:
- Serve as point of contact and subject matter resource and provide electrical engineering expertise and support for buildings and building systems.
- Building facilities include substation control houses, telecommunication buildings, and other Transmission system supporting facilities, such as Operation and Maintenance buildings etc.
- Work includes site assessments, scoping (planning), design, and design submittal reviews. In addition, assist organizational Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) with Requests for Information (RFIs), construction field inspection (review commissioning, startup, redlines) and project closeout.
- Perform electrical engineering and design for building and building electrical system(s).
- Building electrical system(s) includes industrial type electrical power distribution system ranging from 50V – 480V. Distribution system typically comprises of distribution transformers, panelboards, lighting systems, underground and overhead conduit, and cabling system.
- Review and check electrical design drawings and specifications developed by outside Architect Engineering (AE) contractors for new and existing building facilities’ electrical systems.
- Provide electrical engineering expertise to design and review AE submittals for building alarm systems, engine generators, HVAC systems, and gas detectors, etc.
- Provide technical reviews, consultations, overview, and verification of building electrical systems for building projects with the intent of meeting industry codes and standards along with internal standards.
- Conduct station service load flow, arc flash study, and short circuit analyses for 50V – 480V distribution systems.
- Review plans, specifications, and analyses (technical calculations), developed by others, for design accuracy and technical adequacy, and make recommendations for selection / implementation.
- Facilitate and promote the development of state-of-the-art applications and appropriate advancement of technology for low voltage (50V – 480V) electrical systems within building facilities, substations, telecom, and other building facilities.
- Identify and analyze problems associated with complex applications of low voltage electrical system for equipment typically located within a substation and telecommunication buildings, ensuring Standards and Code compliance.
- Coordinate with various design teams on low voltage power distribution and power feeds connecting to high voltage substation equipment.
- Assist with the development, interpretation, and recommendation of industry codes, design standards, application policies, and installation procedures for electrical systems and equipment used in building facilities.
- Review projects and electrical systems under construction to assess conformance to plans, specifications, and codes.
- Coordinate with external AEs to facilitate the completion and issuance of designs.
- Understand and make recommendations on the application of the National Electrical Code and the National Electrical Safety Code to building facilities, substations, telecommunications, and supporting building facilities.
- Visit existing substations and proposed substation sites while unescorted (voltages in substations can range from 120 volts to 500,000 volts) to verify design prints, meet with electricians, or for on-site coordination and other construction meetings.
Requirements/Qualification for Sr. Electrical Engineer - Facilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (from an ABET accredited school) is required.
- 10 years of work-related experience and knowledge of electrical engineering concepts, principles, and practices.
- 7 years of experience with design and engineering of low and medium voltage systems in compliance with various Codes, standards, and safety requirements.
- 7 years of experience with Power Systems, power distribution, and utilization. This includes knowledge and design experience of distribution transformers, panelboards, standby engine-generators, motors, lighting system, Fire Alarm system, cabling, and grounding etc.
- Knowledge of professional engineering theory and techniques sufficient to provide technical leadership in the design of electrical systems.
- Excellent understanding of Electrical Safety Standards, safety regulations, and code requirements (NESC).
- Excellent understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC), which is crucial for ensuring compliance with electrical safety standards.
- Good familiarity of the different industry standards related to electrical design and installation such as the National Fire protection Association (NFPA), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), ANSI and others.
