Overview of the HRBP & HRG Manager

The Manager, HR Business Partners & HR Generalists (Manager, HRBP/HRG) oversees a team of HR professionals who deliver front-line HR partnership and operational excellence across all Relay departments. This role serves as both a people leader and a strategic connector ensuring consistent, equitable, and proactive HR support that advances Relay’s mission of creating meaningful work for people with disabilities.
The Manager provides coaching, mentorship, and direction to the HRBPs and HRGs, balancing strategic alignment with day-to-day operational needs. The incumbent partners closely with the CHRO and HR functional leads (Talent, Benefits, Training, HRIS, and Employee Support Programs) to build a cohesive and high-performing HR team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, coach, and develop the HRBP and HRG team to ensure consistent, equitable, and mission-aligned HR practices.
- Set clear expectations, monitor workload distribution, and ensure timely, compliant, and high-quality HR service delivery.
- Serve as a thought partner and escalation point for complex employee relations and performance management matters.
- Disability Inclusion Mindset: Embeds inclusion and accessibility into HR decisions.
- Support team development through one-on-ones, performance check-ins, and career growth plans.
- Partner with the CHRO to translate organizational strategy into actionable HR priorities.
- Align HRBP/HRG activities with business needs and workforce planning across departments.
- Collaborate with leadership to ensure HR programs, processes, and systems are applied consistently and fairly.
- Provide data-driven insights and recommendations to improve engagement, retention, and organizational health.
- Oversee consistent application of HR policies, SOPs, and procedures across all HRBP/HRG activities.
- Partner with Legal and CHRO on sensitive employee relations, investigations, and compliance matters.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness in HR documentation, employee file management, and internal reporting.
- Support annual cycles such as performance reviews, compensation adjustments, and engagement surveys.
- Facilitate communication between HRBP/HRG teams and other HR functions (Recruiting, Benefits, Payroll, HRIS, Training).
- Drive HR department initiatives to improve systems, processes, and the employee experience.
- Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion across all HR practices.
- Support culture-building efforts that reinforce Relay’s values and strengthen engagement.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- 6+ years of progressive HR experience, including employee relations, compliance, and business partnership.
- 2+ years of HR leadership or supervisory experience.
- Deep knowledge of HR practices, employment law, and compliance standards.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and develop HR professionals.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficiency in HRIS platforms (UKG preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP/SCP) preferred.
- Experience in nonprofit, social enterprise, or unionized work environments.
- Experience supporting or employing individuals with disabilities or neurodivergent team members.
- Accountable for HRBP and HRG team performance, quality, and compliance.
- Operates independently on most assignments, exercising significant discretion and judgment.
- Responsible for ensuring equitable, accurate, and timely HR service delivery across assigned functions.
