Sr. Network Engineer - Security (Hybrid)
Our client, an economic engine for the Portland Region, is looking for a Sr. Network Engineer – Security for their Portland, OR location. In this role, you will act as a highly skilled individual contributor responsible for architecting and engineering secure network implementations in both cloud and on-prem environments. This role is the network subject matter expert across the OSI stack and ensures the secure, reliable, resilient and scalable implementation, extension, and operation of networks. In addition to secure network design and integration, this position will establish standards and document practices for network extension and administration. The role provides deep expertise in network security and architecture, network automation, and software defined networking while collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to solve complex networking challenges and drive innovation.

Key Responsibilities for Sr. Network Engineer - Security:
Expertise working with the following skills / technologies:
- Next-generation firewalls (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco)
- VPN technologies (IPsec, SSL VPN, cloud VPN gateways)
- Zero-trust architecture, segmentation, 802.1X, RADIUS/TACACS+
- LAN/WAN design patterns, core/distribution/edge architecture
- Regional campus spine-leaf fabric design and operations (EVPN-VXLAN, BGP underlay/overlay)
- Hybrid and multi-cloud networking (AWS, Azure, VMware, on-prem integration)
- SD-WAN architecture, service mesh, API gateways, edge computing
- Cisco Meraki Dashboard, Palo Alto Strata Cloud Manager, Zscaler, Fortinet FortiCloud
- Routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP)
- VLANs, VRFs, MPLS
- TCP/IP principles, subnetting, packet flow across OSI model
- Enterprise wireless infrastructure (controller-based, cloud-managed)
- Wi-Fi standards (6/6E/7), RF design, roaming optimization
- Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, GitHub CI/CD
- Network observability tools (logging, monitoring, APM, flow analysis)
- Agile methodologies for network engineering
- Industry trends, emerging technologies, innovation
- Perform (and document) secure configuration, CIS/Industry benchmarks
- Contribute to hybrid-cloud networking (AWS/WAF, VMWare) and automation (Ansible and other DevOps infrastructure – GitHub, etc.)
Requirements for Sr. Network Engineer - Security:
- 5-8 years of progressive experience in network security, architecture, engineering and administration roles within medium to large enterprises
- Firewalls – Integration and Analysis (Rule/object conventions)
- Cisco/ASA and Fortinet (Currently operational)
- Palo Alto (company is implementing)
- LAN/WAN Cisco Core – Leaf/spine architecture, Catalyst iOS, BGP and OSPF routing and EVPN-VXLAN overlay technology
- Internet Edge Integrations – Secure and resilient architecture
