Business Analyst – Safety Business & Risk Analyst
Our client, a leading Pacific Northwest utility provider committed to public service and environmental preservation, is seeking a Business Analyst for their Vancouver, Washington location. This role supports an internal Safety Operations organization by partnering with subject matter experts and stakeholders to analyze safety programs, policies, and operational data.
The Business Analyst identifies early risk indicators through data analysis, incident reviews, and program assessments, supporting proactive risk mitigation and safety improvement efforts. The role also contributes to benchmarking and best-practice initiatives, translating findings into actionable recommendations that strengthen work planning and safety performance.

Key Responsibilities for Business Analyst:
- Partner with safety leaders, subject matter experts, and stakeholders to support safety strategy execution, business objectives, and risk reduction efforts.
- Analyze safety data from multiple sources including training records, incident assessments, safety surveys, employee interviews, and work environment conditions to identify trends, risks, and opportunities to strengthen safety culture.
- Use Power BI and other analytics tools to manage, manipulate, and visualize data, delivering scalable insights and reporting for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Evaluate safety policies, programs, and work standards to support data-informed executive decision-making and risk acceptance.
- Identify opportunities to improve data collection, tracking, trending, hazard mitigation, and day-to-day risk management practices.
- Support the development and execution of a comprehensive safety risk management framework, including prioritization and validation of corrective actions.
- Conduct benchmarking and industry best-practice studies to identify leading safety indicators and improvement opportunities.
- Prepare recurring and ad-hoc reports, dashboards, presentations, and graphics using Microsoft tools and other available software.
- Support incident and hazard assessments by performing risk analysis, contributing to root cause identification, and tracking recurring hazards and mitigation gaps.
- Collaborate across departments to meet specialized data and safety analysis needs.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records in compliance with information security, governance, and audit requirements.
- Participate in in-person meetings and limited travel to operational or field sites as needed (may include periodic travel up to one week per quarter).
- An associate or bachelor’s degree in data science, data analytics, business analytics, data modeling, business mathematics, statistics, risk management, risk analysis, safety & occupational health, or a closely related technical discipline is preferred.
- 5 years of experience is required with an applicable bachelor’s degree.
- 7 years of experience is required with an applicable associate degree.
- 9 years of experience is required without a degree or applicable degree.
- Formal training (college level data modeling, data analytics, mathematics, statistics, etc.) or related coursework can qualify as relevant years of experience. Resume must include a detailed list of the specific classes being claimed as "qualifying".
- Proficiency in the use of a business and/or management system and associated database software programs utilized to establish and maintain data analysis and effective technical analytical recordkeeping skills is required.
- Proficiency in the use of Power BI, Adobe Acrobat Pro, full Microsoft Office applications, Cority, Procore, and similar software platforms for the purposes of creating Access database, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, Visio diagrams, charts, workflows, diagrams, and various miscellaneous materials into a professional published form is required.
- Demonstrated experience in safety risk management within a safety, occupational health, or operational environment, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven experience applying risk management and analysis best practices, including identifying, assessing, and mitigating risk.
- Strong ability to organize, analyze, and present data and insights in written, visual, and statistical formats for diverse stakeholders.
