Electronic Engineer – Transmission/Telecom (Hybrid)
Our client, a leading Pacific Northwest utility provider committed to public service and environmental preservation, is looking for an Electronic Engineer for their Vancouver, Washington location. In this role you will provide support to field engineers and technicians for coordinating and performing troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of communications and control equipment in high voltage electrical substations, radio stations, and control centers.

Key Responsibilities for Electronic Engineer:
- Confer with senior engineers and technicians to contribute technical support on assigned tasks.
- Act as beta tester for new or revised maintenance standards and work guides, utilizing lab equipment to follow procedures and follow up with constructive feedback for clarity, missed steps, and efficient operations in methods and techniques to be followed by technician crews.
- Draft for review, or provide feedback on documented procedures for installation, use, and troubleshooting of hardware and software related to assigned systems and equipment.
- Interface with control center and field personnel to support data integration efforts between field and control center systems.
- Assist with investigation and analysis of operating problems associated with complex electronic systems such as those used in the implementation and maintenance of the telecommunications or SCADA system; draft report results and propose recommend corrective actions.
- Assist in development of standards for planning and design documentation related to new equipment and technology.
- Prepare diagrams, charts, and equipment configurations to be submitted with system specifications.
- Assist with evaluation of test equipment used to troubleshoot or maintain assigned systems and equipment.
- Prepare training materials and hands-on laboratory exercises at the direction of senior engineers and technicians, to be used in company-approved training to end users.
- Provide ongoing teaching and lab assistance during company-approved training to end users.
- Work with Parts Specialist, Supply Chain and Warehouse staff to review reports and monitor spare parts levels for field systems and equipment.
- Perform troubleshooting and provide technical support to craft/customer personnel.
- Compile technical results and related tables, reports, and graphics on system performance, failure analysis and equipment outages; draft findings for submission to personnel or manufactures.
- Coordinate with engineers and technicians to achieve, sustain, and prove compliance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards, including NERC CIP and PRC-005 requirements:
- Monitor and coordinate responses and feedback for proposed NERC standards
- Assist with developing new or revising existing processes and procedures to further compliance with new or existing NERC standards.
- Assemble and analyze data for potential violations, present data in a user-friendly format for evidence reviews.
- Prepare for and support organization during external and internal audits.
- Design forms, reports, and tools to track progress and verify completion of mitigation activities for compliance violations.
- Provide project / task updates to manager.
Requirements/Qualification for Electronic Engineer:
- A bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic or Telecommunications Engineering, is required.
- Candidates 3 months from graduation will be considered. Proof of degree may be requested after graduation. ** (Request attestation from supplier confirming degree was obtained) **
- 6 months of experience in Telecommunications Engineering or closely related field is required.
- Must have knowledge of engineering concepts, principles and practices applicable to components and facilities found on a regional transmission system.
- Knowledge of engineering concepts, principles, and practices applicable to electronics or telecommunications systems.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- College-level technical writing skills demonstrating clarity, accuracy, audience awareness, and conciseness.
