UKG Backend Developer (Remote)
Our client, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to transform workplaces and communities by championing disability inclusion, is seeking a UKG Backend Developer. In this role, you will support and evolve the organization’s UKG Ready and UKG Pro environments as part of a broader enterprise transformation program. This role combines HRIS platform ownership, hands-on system configuration, environment management, and enterprise integration support. The ideal candidate has deep experience working directly within UKG Ready and/or UKG Pro platforms, including configuring payroll and workforce components, managing environments, and ensuring the integrity of HR and payroll data.
This position will work closely with HR, Payroll, Finance, and Integration teams to ensure the UKG platform supports operational processes and integrates effectively with enterprise systems such as ERP, CRM, and analytics platforms.

Key Responsibilities for UKG Backend Developer:
- UKG Platform Configuration & HRIS Administration.
- Configure and maintain UKG Ready and UKG Pro system components including: Earnings codes; Labor distributions; Organizational hierarchies; Payroll structures; Benefits configurations; and Workforce management settings
- Partner with HR, Payroll, and Finance teams to ensure system configuration supports operational and compliance requirements.
- Maintain documentation of system configuration, data definitions, and configuration standards.
- Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and consistency of HR and payroll data across the platform.
- Manage UKG system environments including sandbox, testing, and production instances.
- Coordinate promotion of tested configuration and development changes from sandbox environments into production.
- Establish governance around configuration management, release approvals, and system change documentation.
- Support testing cycles including system testing, UAT coordination, and production validation.
- Support HRIS and Payroll teams in configuring: Payroll structures; Earning codes; Tax configurations; Accrual rules; Labor distribution logic; and Workforce management data
- Troubleshoot payroll and HR data issues impacting downstream systems.
- Ensure compliance with payroll processing and HR data standards.
- Design, build, and maintain integrations between UKG and enterprise systems including ERP, CRM, and analytics platforms.
- Support integration patterns including API integrations; File-based integrations (SFTP), Batch data exchanges.
- Work with enterprise integration teams to ensure reliable data flows between UKG and downstream systems.
- Diagnose and resolve integration failures and data inconsistencies.
- Support HR and payroll data migration activities associated with system implementation and transformation initiatives.
- Validate data mapping, transformation logic, and reconciliation processes.
- Ensure data integrity during migration and system transition phases.
- Provide technical support for the organization’s potential transition from UKG Ready to UKG Pro.
- Assist with Migration planning, Data mapping, Configuration alignment, and Integration updates.
- Participate in system validation and stabilization during platform transitions.
- Monitor system performance and recommend improvements to configuration, integrations, and data processes.
- Partner with UKG support to troubleshoot platform issues and coordinate system updates or patches.
- Identify opportunities to improve automation, system stability, and data quality.
Qualifications for UKG Backend Developer:
- 7+ years of HRIS experience supporting enterprise workforce systems.
- 5+ years hands-on experience working with UKG platforms, including UKG Ready and/or UKG Pro.
- Demonstrated experience configuring UKG system components supporting HR and payroll operations.
- Experience managing UKG environments including sandbox configuration and production release promotion.
- Strong understanding of HRIS and payroll data structures.
- Experience supporting enterprise integrations involving APIs, file feeds, or system interfaces.
- Experience supporting system implementations, migrations, or major platform upgrades.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex system, configuration, and data issues.
