Principal Risk Analyst (Tualatin, OR. 97062)
Motus is partnering with a leading organization in the energy and utilities sector to identify a highly skilled Principal Risk Analyst. This role supports energy risk management and trading operations by delivering advanced quantitative analysis, reporting, and modeling across power and gas markets. You’ll partner closely with cross-functional teams including front office trading, mid-office, back office, and IT—to assess exposures, enhance risk models, and deliver clear, actionable insights that inform strategic and operational decision-making in a fast-paced, evolving environment. Contract Duration: 8+ Months (Conversion: Strong potential to convert to FTE based on performance and budget)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, standard business hours (must support Pacific Time core hours)
Hourly Pay Range: $70.00 - $78.00 (DOE)
Location: Tualatin, Oregon 97062
Flexibility: Open to remote candidates and/or those able to work on site as needed

Key Responsibilities of Principal Risk Analyst:
- Support Power Operations Risk Management through reporting, analysis, and quantitative model development
- Execute and maintain End-of-Day (EOD) and Daily Position Reporting (DPR) processes with a high degree of accuracy
- Analyze trading exposures, risk limits, P&L drivers, and portfolio performance
- Apply and interpret key risk metrics, including VaR, Mark-to-Market, and GMaR
- Translate complex commercial and trading activity into clear quantitative insights
- Present daily risk updates (8:00 AM PST) to front office traders and cross-functional stakeholders
- Clearly explain P&L movements and key drivers to both technical and non-technical audiences, including leadership
- Troubleshoot reporting and data issues across systems (Endur, Snowflake, Tableau/Power BI)
- Develop, validate, and enhance quantitative models for risk and valuation
- Support valuation of complex energy products (PPAs, tolling agreements, options, weather derivatives)
- Analyze complex energy contracts and translate terms into system-level inputs (Endur ETRM)
- Perform statistical and commodity data analysis to support trading and hedging strategies
- Collaborate with IT and data teams to support reporting enhancements and system transitions
- Contribute to ongoing improvements aligned with Risk Management policies and procedures
- Support monthly forecasting processes and ad hoc analytical projects
Qualifications of Principal Risk Analyst:
- BA degree in a related field OR 8+ years of relevant experience in financial/energy risk management (principal-level expected)
- Strong understanding of risk concepts (VaR, exposure analysis, P&L attribution)
- Experience with production-based reporting in trading or risk environments
- Hands-on experience with Endur ETRM strongly preferred (Other ETRM systems (e.g., RightAngle) also considered)
- Proficiency in Excel and reporting/data tools (Power BI, Tableau, Snowflake)
- Working knowledge of Python and/or SQL to collaborate effectively with IT/data teams
- Strong communication and presentation skills, especially with non-SME audiences
- Energy, utilities, or power & gas markets (highly desirable)
- Broader commodities experience (oil, gas, metals, agriculture, etc.)
- Financial markets (equities, trading, portfolio risk)
- Strong ownership of daily production reporting and risk analysis
- Ability to translate complex risk data into clear, business-relevant insights
- Confident communication in high-visibility forums with traders and leadership
