Technical Training Specialist – PART-TIME
Our client, a leading Pacific Northwest utility provider committed to public service and environmental stewardship, is seeking a Technical Training Specialist for their Vancouver, Washington location. In this part-time role, you will support a technical apprenticeship program by reviewing, evaluating, and providing feedback on correspondence-based training materials for electrical operations apprentices. Using your expertise in high-voltage transmission operations and substation practices, you will help ensure training materials are accurately evaluated while supporting the continued development of skilled utility professionals.

Key Responsibilities for Technical Training Specialist:
- Review and evaluate apprenticeship training lessons covering substation operations, electrical systems, and transmission equipment to ensure technical accuracy and completeness.
- Provide detailed written feedback, corrections, and recommendations to support apprentice learning and technical development.
- Collaborate with apprenticeship program leadership by reviewing completed coursework and providing recommendations on apprentice progress and overall program effectiveness.
- Identify opportunities to improve training materials, curriculum content, and instructional resources to support a high-quality technical training program.
- Develop and maintain reports, records, and tracking documentation related to apprentice coursework, lesson completion, and program activities.
- Review and recommend updates to technical training materials to ensure content remains accurate, current, and aligned with industry practices.
- Apply extensive utility operations knowledge to support the continued development of apprenticeship training and technical education initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree in Adult Education, Training, Instructional Design, or a related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience providing technical training or operational support within an electrical transmission or high-voltage utility environment.
- Completion of a Substation Operator Apprenticeship Program is required.
- 5+ years of experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience performing high- and low-voltage switching and tagging within Extra High Voltage (EHV) transmission substations and transmission lines.
- Extensive knowledge of safe work practices, switching procedures, and operational protocols for EHV transmission systems.
- Experience removing and restoring complex protective relaying systems and Remedial Action Scheme (RAS) inputs/outputs within EHV substations.
- Experience writing switching orders and interpreting station prints, electrical schematics, and technical drawings.
- Strong knowledge of AC/DC electrical theory, high-voltage transmission equipment, electrical troubleshooting, and power system operations.
- Working knowledge of hydroelectric and fossil-fuel generation systems, as well as High Voltage AC and HVDC transmission interties.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience reviewing, evaluating, or developing technical training materials for Substation Operator Apprenticeship Programs or similar electrical utility training programs.
