Strategic Sourcing Manager (Remote)
Our client, a leading healthcare company dedicated to revolutionizing the industry, is looking for a Strategic Sourcing Manager for their Portland, OR location. In this role, you will contribute focused expertise and drive a culture of spending discipline for more complex spend categories (i.e. complex services) via the employment of efficient, effective, and best in class strategic sourcing, contract management, negotiation, and supplier management practices, while leveraging identified company implemented technology. You will build and own relationships with internal customers, ensure regulatory compliance, mitigate company risk, and contribute to the organization’s solutions profitability.
This is a 6-month contract with the possibility of conversion and is fully remote. Candidates must be able to work Pacific Time (PT) hours. Professionals with direct sourcing and procurement experience in highly regulated industries such as healthcare, finance, utilities, manufacturing, or legal are encouraged to apply. Strategic Sourcing Manager Responsibilities:
- Develop sustainable strategies for moderate to highly complex spend categories that include spend analysis, market and geographic considerations, and strategic importance, etc.
- Implement appropriate sourcing strategies to support corporate and divisional objectives, control the company’s purchased material costs and to assure an adequate source of supply.
- Lead sourcing events that will provide the company competitive advantage in the areas of materials, supplies, and services.
- Create, manage, and promote sound relationships with strategic suppliers and internal business partners.
- Manage suppliers, total cost, quality, and delivery performance.
- Manage and optimize supplier performance, including contract compliance, continuous improvement, innovations, obsolescence, and reduction in total cost of ownership.
- Conduct periodic strategic supplier business reviews and supplier visits.
- Foster collaborative relationships with multiple business partners and strategic suppliers.
- Locate, analyze, and develop a consolidated supplier base to meet current and future commodity needs.
- Evaluate the current market conditions on a regular basis and make changes to support any market changes.
- Manage and facilitate all facets of supply management activities between division business units and their suppliers.
- Negotiate and manage all contracts and agreements for assigned commodities ensuring the relentless pursuit of cost savings and favorable terms.
- Understand, track, and forecast the key cost drivers and market factors for assigned commodities.
- Identify and evaluate business risks in contracts and advise the business owner of their performance obligations to mitigation said risk.
- Develop focus area knowledge and expertise within the commodity focus teams to further understand company-wide needs and evaluate suppliers within the focus area.
- Foster an environment of continuous learning and focus amongst the sourcing management analysts in the same focus group.
- Understand the nuances and complexities of a varied and complex commodity group.
- Drive continuous improvement in all aspects of the procurement process, including the evaluation of existing contracts for savings opportunities.
- Utilize the eSourcing and contract lifecycle management procurement software to create, manage and monitor contracts and approvals, souring events, online auctions, RFx creation and maintenance.
Strategic Sourcing Manager Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or technology and 10 years of procurement/supply chain experience, including 4 years strategic sourcing experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Advanced contracting skills - knowledge of contracting principles, laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Advanced planning and negotiation skills.
- Proven leadership track record in initiating change and challenging the status quo.
- In depth knowledge of Supply Chain fundamentals.
- Prior experience in identified spend category industry desired.
- Ability to apply key procurement skills, including development/management of category strategies; RFP/RFI development, Contract negotiations, strategic sourcing, management of supplier relationship lifecycle, understanding of risk mitigation principles, and understanding of Total Cost of Ownership.
- Demonstrated ability to market departmental offerings to the rest of the organization.
- Strong written, verbal communications, and presentation skills
- Detail and multi-task oriented with the ability to handle rapid changes both in the marketplace and in the work environment.
- Strong coaching & mentoring skills.
- Past leadership experience in supply chain or procurement.
- Excellent problem solving and risk management skills.
- Excellent market research skills and analytical skills as well as a continuous knowledge of external trends affecting the health insurance industry.
- Proficient in the MS Office Suite and IBM Desktop Software (including Lotus Notes).
- Certification in supply chain, contract management, or procurement desired
- Experience with PeopleSoft, eSourcing and CLM procurement software desired
