Clinical Intake & Correspondence Specialist I
Our client, a leading health care company dedicated to revolutionizing the industry, is looking for a remote Clinical Intake & Correspondence Specialist I. In this role, you will receive, research, and take initial action related to documentation and requests from a variety of sources related to Utilization Management (UM), Care Management (CM), and Disease Management (DM) programs. This position does not make clinical decisions but partners with licensed health professionals on appropriate actions and responses.

In this role, you will receive, research, and take initial action related to documentation and requests from a variety of sources related to Utilization Management (UM), Care Management (CM), and Disease Management (DM) programs. This position does not make clinical decisions but partners with licensed health professionals on appropriate actions and responses.
- Pay Range: $25.00 - $29.00/hr. DOE
- Location: Remote (Candidates must currently reside in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, or North Dakota)
- Contract Duration: 6 months, with potential for contract-to-hire
- Anticipated Start Date: November 9, 2026

- Ability to work remotely full-time and maintain a private, quiet, dedicated home workspace.
- Must be willing to work Pacific Time Zone hours, with some flexibility in the daily schedule as needed.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and/or past 6:00 PM Pacific Time if needed. If assigned to a weekend shift, employees will have flexibility in selecting two days off during the week.
- Ability to work overtime when needed.
- Punctuality and consistent attendance are essential.
- Adhere to dependability, customer focus, and all performance criteria established by the department, including timeliness, production, and quality standards.
- Research simple to moderately complex documentation and requests related to UM processes and requirements, as well as CM and DM programs, from members, providers, employer groups, agents, member representatives, and internal customers.
- Review requests for completeness and identify additional information needed to initiate requests without performing activities that require evaluation or interpretation of clinical information.
- Validate preauthorization requirements, member benefits, and eligibility, and document information in the appropriate systems.
- Identify errors promptly and determine appropriate corrective steps.
- Create cases for UM, CM, and DM in the Care Management System as appropriate.
- Coordinate case information in external vendor systems for Medical Director Reviews when necessary.
- Receive and document medical inpatient admission and discharge notifications for UM and CM use.
- Coordinate with members, providers, clinical staff, other departments, and vendors to process requests and provide complete responses.
- Follow strict guidelines to ensure work meets corporate standards for accuracy, timeliness, quality, and compliance with federal, state, BCBSA, and accreditation regulations.
- Help members and providers understand the preauthorization process and the information needed to effectively process a preauthorization.
- High school diploma or GED
- 3+ years of Clinical Services experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
- Strong customer service skills, including listening, patience, empathy, confidentiality, and a focus on meeting customer needs.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Outlook, and internet research, with experience using health care systems and documentation such as EMR, billing, and claims.
- Strong organization, data entry, and administrative skills.
- Ability to work quickly and accurately in a production-focused environment.
- Ability to investigate and research issues related to clinical programs and work with clinical staff to resolve them.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize work, meet deadlines, and achieve operational standards.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and quickly pivot between different tasks as needed.
- Knowledge of medical coding, including CPT, DX, and HCPCs.
- Previous professional experience in health insurance or a provider's office, including scheduling or front-office experience.
- Professional/business letter writing or correspondence experience.
