Business Analyst – Control & Communications Systems
Our client, a leading Pacific Northwest utility provider dedicated to public service and environmental stewardship, is seeking a Business Analyst for their Vancouver, Washington location.
In this role, you’ll support critical compliance efforts related to Power System Control and System Protection & Control equipment, ensuring adherence to North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) requirements. This is a one-year renewable contract offering competitive employee benefits.
Pay Range: $48.00 – 51.00, DOE
Location: Vancouver, Washington – HYBRID – 3-days per 2-week pay period onsite.
Key Responsibilities for Business Analyst:
- Manage project activities for compliance and cybersecurity initiatives, including firmware tracking, vulnerability assessments, and password management.
- Analyze Cascade and Bulk Electric System (BES) data to assess compliance risks and ensure alignment with NERC standards.
- Monitor and verify that new and modified equipment meet North American Electric Reliability Corporation-Critical Infrastructure Protection (NERC-CIP) requirements.
- Develop and maintain compliance documentation, including SharePoint project sites, workflows, and document libraries.
- Conduct research and gather data from asset and maintenance databases, identifying gaps and ensuring data accuracy.
- Create advanced reports and dashboards using Excel, Power BI, and other reporting tools for data analysis and evidence reviews.
- Prepare and support the organization during internal and external audits by compiling evidence, running reports, and coordinating materials for auditors.
- Design and recommend tools, forms, and processes for tracking compliance and mitigating violations.
- Improve processes to enhance efficiency, consistency, and quality in compliance activities.
- Collaborate with managers, project sponsors, and stakeholders to identify and resolve obstacles impacting project timelines and success.
- Develop and document requirements, processes, and tools to support NERC-CIP compliance efforts.
- Monitor and track software and firmware updates, ensuring timely authentication and implementation.
- Facilitate requirements elicitation workshops and present findings to relevant personnel to inform decision-making.
Requirements for Business Analyst:
- A degree in Business Management, Business Administration, Cyber Security, Engineering, Organizational Development or closely related technical field is preferred.
- With an applicable Bachelor degree, 5+ years of experience is required
- With an applicable Associate degree, 7+ years of experience is required
- Without an applicable degree, 9+ years of experience is required
- Experience should include demonstrate business systems analysis progressively more technical in nature
- 5+ years of work experience in compliance, process change/improvement, and/or gathering data.
- Advanced computer skills and knowledge of automated data systems.
- High-intermediate to low-advanced user of Excel.
- Experience in preparing for or participating in external audits is preferred.
- Experience organizing cross functional meetings is preferred.
- SharePoint experience is preferred.
- Visio experience is preferred.
- Familiarity or experience with NERC CIP standards is preferred.
